Report: Why Barcelona feel they could have no choice but to sign £60m Chelsea star

Ahead of the summer, Joao Pedro appears to be one player who is on Barcelona’s radar.

In March, it was claimed that Barcelona sporting director and ex-Chelsea star Deco has made calls to Pedro’s agent.

It is not what Chelsea fans want to hear, but the good news is that the striker does not appear to be the Catalan club’s priority just yet.

Chelsea are reportedly set to tweak their transfer strategy and sign more experienced players!

Difficulty of Julian Alvarez deal could force Barcelona to turn to Joao Pedro

Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez is believed to be Barcelona’s main target heading into the summer transfer window.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester City in 2024 and has impressed in Spain. It is not a shock that Barcelona are now interested in him.

However, according to Cadena SER, Barcelona feel they may be forced to settle for an alternative like Pedro because the Argentine could join another club or end up staying at Atletico.

Interestingly, Chelsea are one of the other outfits Alvarez is currently being linked to. Alvarez has reportedly shared his demands with Chelsea and other interested parties, with the 26-year-old keen to continue playing up front and not in any other attacking position.

He has played exclusively there this season, scoring 19 goals, which is the same number as Pedro.

Why Barcelona will struggle to sign Joao Pedro from Chelsea this summer

The reality is Barcelona are probably going to need an alternative to their alternative because Chelsea are just not going to sell Pedro in the upcoming transfer window.

The Brazilian has not even been at the club for a whole year yet, has been the team’s best attacker this season and will cost a gigantic fee if Chelsea do decide to sell him in the near future.

The Blues paid £60m for his signature and will believe he is worth significantly more than that after his goalscoring exploits this term. Barcelona have long had financial trouble and may not be able to offer the kind of financial package Chelsea would consider.
