Atlético de Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has hit back at questions over Julián Álvarez’s future ahead of the clash with Arsenal this evening.
Marca report comments from the Atlético president today. He was left ‘visibly annoyed’ by questions over the Argentine striker.
Arsenal rumours becoming annoying
Julián Álvarez appears destined to be one of the hottest names on the transfer market this summer.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed another impressive season for Diego Simeone’s side, with 19 goals and nine assists in 47 games in all competitions for the Spanish side this season.
It’s another impressive campaign from the Argentine striker, who managed 29 goals and eight assists in 57 games in all competitions last season.
Now, he’s being regularly linked with a major move away from the Wanda Metropolitano. Barcelona are on the hunt for a new striker, while reports have also credited Arsenal with a growing interest.
A report earlier this month stated that Arsenal had already sent the striker a firm offer. Diego Simeone has even responded to the rumours, insisting that he thinks they’re perfectly normal.
President’s approach
It seems, though, that the Atlético manager’s president has a different approach to the matter.
Marca report that Cerezo ‘expressed his frustration’ to journalists when he was asked about Julián Álvarez’s future today. He was left ‘visibly annoyed’ by the question.
“You’re here for tonight’s game. Julián is an Atlético de Madrid player. To keep bringing up Julián Álvarez again is truly hurtful,” he said.
Whether Cerezo’s comments change the narrative, remains to be seen. His angry response is unlikely to stop what is a growing transfer story.
And that story is only going to increase if Álvarez puts in another impressive performance when Arsenal visit the Wanda Metropolitano in the Champions League semi-finals this evening. If he does, Cerezo can perhaps expect more questions he doesn’t like.
