Fenerbahçe have held talks with Andy Robertson’s agents about a move when he leaves Liverpool this summer.

Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reports that Robertson’s agent recently travelled to Istanbul for talks with the Turkish giants.

Agent talks

Sabuncuoğlu reports that Fenerbahçe brought Andy Robertson’s agent to Istanbul so that they could present a verbal offer to the Liverpool full-back.

Robertson is reported to have considered the offer, but negotiations with the 32-year-old have now stalled. That’s a consequence of the recent decision for the club to hold presidential elections in June.

The Turkish side will be holding an extraordinary election Iin the coming months, with President Sadettin Saran announcing the decision on Tuesday. That, it seems, has put all transfer negotiations on hold for the time being.

Free transfer

Andy Robertson is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer after nine years at Anfield. Where he goes next, remains to be seen.

While he has not been at his previous best in the last two years for Liverpool, there is no indication that he needs to take an immediate step down.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur were seemingly keen on a move in the January transfer window. That deal did not eventually happen, but Spurs would surely be back in the market again, should they avoid relegation this season.

Other Premier League sides would surely be in the mix as well. At 32-years-old, Robertson offers vital experience and still has a few years left in him.

Fenerbahçe off the table now

For now, it appears that Fenerbahçe’s offer has been withdrawn. At the least it appears to be on standby.

Their decision to head to elections later this year appears to have stalled everything, despite the Liverpool defender’s agent travelling for talks.

Whether they pick that back up following those elections, remains to be seen. A new leadership could have very different plans, meaning that these talks won’t progress beyond this point.
