Liverpool legend Jan Molby says the Reds should look to West Ham this summer to secure a perfect midfield signing for Arne Slot.
Mateus Fernandes has been a stand-out performer for the relegation-threatened outfit and is drawing interest from across Europe, with Molby believing that Liverpool should join the race for his signature.
Fernandes, who is only 21, moved from Southampton to West Ham last summer for a fee of around $51 million (£38 million), so he has two full seasons under his belt in the Premier League, which would only add to the appeal and increase the price tag.

PSG has been linked with a move for Fernandes ahead of the summer, but Molby says Liverpool should be keen as well — potentially with an opportunity to snap up its own version of Vitinha or Joao Neves.
"I think he’s exceptional, and I mean exceptional," Molby told Anfield Index. "That boy ain’t staying at West Ham, regardless of what happens.
"He’s got it all. He’s mobile. He’s technically very good. He reminds me a bit of the two Portuguese midfielders who run and dominate at PSG. This boy’s the real deal."

Fernandes has played 38 games in all competitions for West Ham this season, scoring five goals and assisting another four.
He got similar numbers for Southampton last term and previously played for Sporting CP.
In a recent feature on The Overlap, pundit Roy Keane picked the midfielder over a host of other Premier League rivals in the same position, including Manchester United's Casemiro, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, and even Liverpool ace Ryan Gravenberch.
West Ham has four games remaining in which to secure its Premier League status. Those are against Brentford, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Leeds. Tottenham is the side that it needs to stay ahead of to survive.

Liverpool.com says: Depending on exits, the Reds might have to think about signing a midfielder this summer. There have been no talks yet regarding an extension for Alexis Mac Allister, while Curtis Jones will only have 12 months left on his deal.
Fernandes would be a decent replacement for either of those players. At 21 and with experience in the English game already, he could be an astute move at the right price.
That valuation, though, might hinge on whether West Ham stays up or goes down. Either way, there will be interest in him once again, and he should be playing at a higher level.
