Andy Robertson’s Liverpool exit has taken another twist this week.

Liverpool have already confirmed that the 32-year-old will leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing the curtain down on a glittering nine-year spell on Merseyside.

There have been plenty of reports that Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid will be among the clubs first in the queue for the Scotsman.

However, there are now fresh claims from Turkey regarding the vice-captain’s future. Turkish Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has claimed that Fenerbahçe flew Robertson’s representative out to Istanbul for face-to-face discussions over a potential deal.

It is suggested that the Turkish giants made a verbal contract offer, with the defender now believed to be weighing up the proposal. The same report adds that Robertson has taken the offer under serious consideration:

“Fenerbahçe brought Andrew Robertson’s agent to Istanbul. A verbal offer was made. The player has taken the offer under consideration, but the talks halted once the election decision was made.”

Fenerbahçe are set hold a presidential election in June. That doesn’t mean the deal is dead, but it does suggest any agreement will likely have to wait until the political dust settles at boardroom level.

A switch to the Istanbul club would offer Champions League football and a passionate fanbase, while giving the left-back a fresh challenge after winning every major honour with the Reds. For now, though, his future remains in limbo.

Speaking after the decision was made earlier this April, Robertson said:

“I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open. The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans. The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get.”

“I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, face the emotional and sporting challenge of replacing not only an elite left-back but also a key figure in the squad’s leadership group.

With no extension on the table, the club is expected to lean on Kerkez and explore options in the market to replace Robertson.
