Mohamed Salah suffered a suspected hamstring injury, casting doubt over his availability for the final weeks of the season after limping off in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Arne Slot’s side climbed to fourth thanks to goals from Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz, capitalising on Aston Villa’s defeat to Fulham.
Liverpool will take on arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.Injuries are piling up ahead of the clash, with several players unavailable and others doubtful as Liverpool seek revenge for October’s defeat.
The Reds have now officially confirmed that Salah will play again this season after the 33-year-old sustained a minor muscle injury.
A club statement read: “Liverpool FC can confirm Mohamed Salah is expected to be available to play again before the end of this season.”
“The No.11 was substituted during the second half of last Saturday’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Anfield. The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury.
“It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025-26’s conclusion and his departure from the Reds this summer.”
Salah started for Liverpool against Palace and was heavily involved early on, with a first-half penalty initially awarded by referee Andy Madley overturned after a VAR review following a challenge from Brennan Johnson.
However, just before the hour mark at Anfield, Salah went down off the ball clutching his left hamstring. He was substituted for Jeremie Frimpong and applauded all four stands as he left the pitch.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arne Slot said: “We don’t know, that’s the best answer I can give because if I say it might be a chance then probably all the headlines are, ‘there might be a chance…’
“We simply don’t know but what we do know is the season is in four weeks over, so there are not a lot of games being played. “We have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play.
“What I do know about Mo is throughout all of these years he has taken such good care of his body that he will have the minimum time required to recover from an injury. “Let’s hope for the best and that he is available in the last part [of the season].”
Salah is set to miss this weekend’s clash with Manchester United and is also likely to be unavailable for the visit of Chelsea as Arne Slot’s side push for a top-five finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
Liverpool then face Aston Villa, with the fixture subject to change if Villa reach the UEFA Europa League Final. Salah is expected to return for the final game of the season against Brentford, where he and Andy Robertson are set to make their last appearances before departing this summer.
The update is also positive for Egypt, with Salah expected to captain them at this summer’s World Cup, where they face Belgium, New Zealand and Iranin Group G.
