Cesc Fabregas is reportedly eyeing the Arsenal job amid interest from Chelsea. The Spaniard is keen on staying at Como until the Gunners come calling.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Transfer Talk podcast, Kaveh Solhekol said that Fabregas does not see a move to Stamford Bridge as a manager in his career. He wants to make his return to the Emirates instead and the journalist said:
"Cesc Fabregas, what I’ve been told, there’s some kind of suggestion that long-term, the plan for him is to manage Arsenal one day. I’m not sure moving to Chelsea would be part of his career progression."
The comments come just days after the Como manager distanced himself from the Stamford Bridge job. He said that the focus remains on the Serie A side and there was nothing to add from his side.
"I don't have to say anything. I don't know anything about it. It would be stupid to think about things that aren't important now, because this isn't important to me. The most important thing is Genoa, the next match, and we want to do everything we can to win. I think I'll continue as Como's coach: my experience as a player gives me peace of mind." (via Standard)
It was not the first time he rebuffed rumours about leaving Como. Speaking to the media earlier this season, Fabregas said:
"I am very committed to this project. You never know, but right now I think it’s very unlikely I’ll leave Como. Last year, I wanted to see how other clubs operated. I mentioned it to the president, but I decided to stay. I’m very happy with what we’ve been able to achieve. This is an important project. I need to feel good here. It’s important that my family be happy, and if they’re happy in Como, I’ll stay."
The Blues are searching for their third manager in less than four months after Enzo Maresca resigned on New Year's Day.
Cesc Fabregas urged to reject Chelsea by Emmanuel Petit
Emmanuel Petit spoke to GOAL, sending a clear message to Cesc Fabregas. He said that the Chelsea job is a nightmare for the managers and he should not consider it.
"Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea? No, no, no. It’s a nightmare for managers; it’s kind of a nightmare as well for the players, actually. You will find more serenity even if you face a lot of pressure in Barcelona."
Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola are the managers in the running for the Chelsea job.
