It was meant to be a way of kick starting a career that had shown signs of faltering after a bright start.
But Ethan Nwaneri’s loan spell in Ligue 1 with Marseille is in danger of unravelling, as the teenager continues to suffer from a lack of goal-time.
A change of manager has not helped. When he signed the club was managed by Roberto de Zerbi, but he was then sacked, to be replaced by Habib Beye, who clearly does not rate him, and has accused him of a lack of commitment.
And that means that hopes Nwaneri would return to the Emirates ready to play a bigger part for the Gunners next season already look slim, and, instead he could find himself lined-up for departure.
And for those who had such high hopes for Nwaneri when he was handed his Premier League debut aged just 15 years old, that would be a major disappointment.
