Mikel Arteta is pushing for Arsenal to complete a 'shock' transfer to re-sign Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry this summer, according to Sports Boom.
The Gunners have had a fine season but are battling to avoid finishing it trophyless as they sit top of the Premier League by three points, having played a game more than Man City, while they are also in the semi-finals of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
But the club are keen to add more firepower to their squad for next season after some struggles in front of goal from open play, and a move to bring Gnabry back to north London has now emerged as a possibility.
Arsenal Want to Re-Sign Gnabry
Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry
Gnabry signed a new contract at Bayern worth £265,000-a-week earlier this year, which runs until 2028, and has been a regular under Vincent Kompany this season, before injury curtailed his season early.
But Bayern are also keen to freshen up their attacking options, and Gnabry is someone who could be moved on as he is now in his 30s and on big money to help them balance the books for new signings.
Arteta is understood to view the Germany international as 'the one that got away' at the club, having come through the academy but only playing 18 times for the first team before departing for Werder Bremen in 2016.
The player's injury means that Arsenal are not in a rush to push through a deal early in the window, as they want to see how he recovers first, but they plan to watch his rehabilitation closely over the summer before then making a move, with 'leaked information' from within the club suggesting that he is right at the top of their shortlist.
Gnabry Return Would Be a Gamble

There is nobody in north London who would doubt the quality and ability that Gnabry has, and he would certainly bring something different to the attack at the club.
But with his recent injury record and age, any big-money deals would be a huge gamble and Arsenal are always wary of taking those risks. The attack is full of young talent like Bukayo Saka, Ebere Eze, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman, and someone like Gnabry could easily hinder them as much as he could help them.
A deal for a player that good doesn't come around often, but it's also a big risk and the Gunners will have to think carefully before splashing the cash.
