Mohamed Salah’s injury threatened to ruin his Liverpool farewell, but a promising update has provided hope of seeing him on the pitch again.
With the Egyptian set to leave in just a few weeks, seeing him hobble off against Crystal Palace was a devastating sight. It looked like a hamstring issue, but a statement from Liverpool suggests it’s not as bad as initially thought.
They shared: “The No.11 was substituted during the second half of last Saturday’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Anfield. The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury.
“It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025-26’s conclusion and his departure from the Reds this summer.”

A welcome update, but one Liverpool fans should take with a grain of salt.
Mo Salah probably has one more Liverpool game in him
If we’re being truthful, the concerns around Salah were less to do with losing his impact on the pitch, and more to do with wanting to give him the send-off he deserves.
This injury update suggests that can still happen, but we shouldn’t expect any more than one final appearance — against Brentford at Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season.

Reason being, Salah is gearing up to go to the World Cup with Egypt in a matter of weeks, and he certainly won’t want to risk any further aggravation. His impact on their chances at the tournament can’t be overstated.

So yes, Liverpool fans should get to see Salah in a red shirt one last time, but that’s about the extent of it.
Time for a Liverpool attacker to step up
Salah’s absence from the side gives Arne Slot a chance to test his current alternatives. Jeremie Frimpong, Federico Chiesa, and Rio Ngumoha can all play out on the right.
Liverpool are going to sign a winger this summer. That could be Yan Diomande, Rafael Leao, or one of a number of options being monitored.

Still, this is a golden opportunity for those players on the fringes of the starting XI to make their case for a larger role next season.
It will be very interesting to see who gets the nod on Sunday.
