Burnley have dismissed head coach Scott Parker just three weeks before Arsenal host the Clarets in a crucial Premier League fixture on May 18.
The timing of Parker’s departure adds an unexpected twist to Arsenal’s title race preparations, with the Gunners currently sitting three points clear at the top of the table despite having played one more game than second-placed Manchester City.

[According to Football London](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-premier-league-title-race-33864258), Burnley confirmed Parker has “left his position as head coach by mutual consent” following discussions between the former Tottenham midfielder and the club’s board earlier this week.
Parker’s exit comes after Burnley’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed, ending their brief return to the top flight. The 44-year-old had guided the Lancashire club to promotion during the 2024/25 season but was unable to keep them in the Premier League.
Parker reflects on Burnley tenure
---------------------------------
In his farewell statement, Parker expressed pride in his achievements at Turf Moor: “It has been an immense privilege to lead this great club over the past two years. I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction.”
The former England international particularly highlighted the club’s “unforgettable promotion season” as a career highlight, adding: “It was a true honour to lead this team into the Premier League.”
Interim arrangement for Arsenal clash
-------------------------------------
Mike Jackson will take temporary charge of Burnley for their remaining four Premier League fixtures, including the trip to the Emirates Stadium. Jackson will be supported by existing members of the club’s backroom staff as they attempt to finish the season on a positive note.
For Arsenal, the managerial change at Burnley represents just one element of a packed fixture schedule that could define their season. Mikel Arteta’s side welcome Fulham on Saturday before hosting Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Tuesday, with the tie level at 1-1 following Wednesday’s draw in Spain.
The Gunners then face West Ham away before the Burnley fixture, concluding their league campaign at Crystal Palace. Should Arsenal progress past Atletico Madrid, a Champions League final awaits at the end of May.
With the title race entering its final stages, Arsenal will be focused on maintaining their three-point advantage over City, regardless of who occupies the opposing dugout when Burnley visit north London.
