Liverpool Women have guaranteed themselves another season in the Women’s Super League with two games left in the season, avoiding a relegation playoff.
The Reds were slow starters in the WSL this season, waiting until January 25, four months after the campaign got underway, for their first league win.
In the months since, they have won a further three, adding to their five draws to ensure they will play in the WSL next season.
With Leicester losing 7-0 against Arsenal on Wednesday, Liverpool’s points tally of 17 now cannot be surpassed with two games left, with the Foxes eight points behind in last place.
It means Gareth Taylor’s side are now confirmed to be part of the expanded competition next season, which sees the number of teams grow from 12 to 14.

Avoiding a last-place finish also ensures the Reds will not be involved in a relegation playoff, held between the WSL’s last-placed team and the third-place side in the Championship.
Instead of an automatic relegation spot, a one-leg contest will determine who competes in the women’s topflight in 2026/27.
Crystal Palace currently sit third in the Championship and, as it stands, will host Leicester for a place in the top flight.
Two teams will be promoted from the second division, with the final club to be confirmed on the conclusion of the first-ever playoff of its kind in the women’s top divisions on May 23.
It was imperative for Liverpool to remain in the top division, and despite sitting last over seven successive matchdays, the club can breathe easier knowing their place is secure.
The Reds could have a hand in the title race as they face league leaders Man City on Sunday before hosting Arsenal on the final day, but their key fixture is the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton on May 10.
