Liverpool’s possible move for West Ham and England attacking Jarrod Bowen is “still on”, according to a fresh claim from former scout Mick Brown.
The 29-year-old has become a modern Hammers legend down the years, scoring 84 goals in 276 appearances, as well as registering 62 assists.
Bowen could leave West Ham this summer, however, especially if they suffer relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, and Liverpool have often been linked with him.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that the Reds could still snap up the England ahead of next season, even though he could easily stay with the Hammers.
“Everybody knows about Bowen’s situation at West Ham. He loves the club, he’s got his family connections there now and he’s settled in the area, so it would take a lot for him to leave at the moment,” Bowen said.
“I don’t expect it’s even something he’s considering right now, the focus is on making sure West Ham stay in the Premier League, because that will be the difference. The only way I can see him moving on is if they get relegated, because Jarrod Bowen not going to want to play in the Championship next season given his ability.
“But if he can turn in some impressive performances between now and the end of the season to keep them up, I don’t see any way he would want to move on. I think there’s a pretty clear plan that he will want to stay at West Ham if he can, regardless of who might be interested in him.
“I expect that interest from Liverpool is still on given Salah has decided to move on, but as I say, Bowen isn’t looking to leave West Ham while they’re in the Premier League.”
Has Jarrod Bowen’s chance to join Liverpool passed?
Bowen is an excellent attacking player, providing such consistent end product down the years, often for a West Ham side who have struggled.
Jurgen Klopp has always admired him, saying he liked him “a lot”, but he turns 30 this year, which is the biggest issue with Liverpool moving for him.
He could still join the Reds, but it would feel like a gamble at this point in his career, even though he still possesses plenty of quality.
Instead, Liverpool must look at younger options, from Yan Diomande to Michael Olise, even though the latter feels like a pipe dream of a signing.
