Atlético de Madrid star Julián Álvarez has only suffered a ‘minor ankle sprain’ and should be fit for the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal next week.

Cadena SER report that the Argentine striker should be fit for the crucial trip to the Emirates after limping out of the 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening.

Arsenal worries

The 26-year-old is currently the ‘beating heart’ of Atlético’s forward line, which was proven again against Arsenal. He put in another impressive display and converted from the penalty spot for the equaliser in the game.

Losing him for the second leg would be a major blow. And there was fear that would be the case after he came off worse from a nothing clash with Eberechi Eze.

The Arsenal midfielder landed with his full weight on the striker’s ankle in a ‘completely accidental’ collision, leaving Julián Álvarez sprawled on the floor in ‘obvious pain’.

He tried to push through but was eventually forced off, leading to concerns. But fortunately for Atlético, there’s nothing to worry about.

Injury concerns dismissed

According to Cadena SER’s information, medical tests have confirmed that Julián Álvarez has only suffered a ‘low-grade sprain’.

That means, barring a relapse, the Argentine striker will be available for the return leg against Arsenal next week. Diego Simeone was also optimistic after the game.

“Optimistic for the return leg? I’m always optimistic,” he said when asked about the striker’s situation post-match.

He was likewise optimistic about Giuliano Simeone, who was also forced off the pitch following a heavy collision. Alexander Sørloth, meanwhile, didn’t even get into the game as he is still in the midst of his rehabilitation. But the Atlético boss is confident he’ll have both for Arsenal.

“Giuliano is carrying a heavy knock, Julián’s injury was an accidental collision in midfield, and Sørloth has some hamstring discomfort, but I expect everyone to be fit in time,” he added.
