Bournemouth youngster Alex Scott said that former Liverpool star Tyler Morton deserves to be getting regular starts for one of the biggest clubs in world soccer.

Morton left Liverpool to join Lyon last summer after deciding that he needed to leave Anfield in order to progress in his career.

The 23-year-old has since established himself as a mainstay in the Lyon team, appearing more than 40 times in all competitions for his new club.

Now, Bournemouth star Scott, who has become good friends with Morton while playing with him on international duty with England's Under-21s, has spoken fondly of the former Liverpool star.

“I think it was a great decision for him (to leave Liverpool for Lyon), he is smashing it at the minute,” he said. “He’s an unbelievable player.”

“I think Liverpool fans saw that years ago when he was bossing it at the San Siro. He didn’t really get his opportunity last year. Obviously, it was tough in a team that was doing so well going for the league.

“In his head, I think it was time to move on and play first-team football,” Scott added.

“He was playing a lot of 21s football as well, but a player of his standard needs to be playing week in, week out, for one of the top teams in the world. I speak to him quite a lot, he is an unbelievable guy. I’m so, so happy that he’s doing so well.“

Earlier this year, Morton revealed how Jurgen Klopp's departure and Arne Slot's subsequent arrival was bad news for his prospects on Merseyside.

"Jurgen Klopp was the best coach for my development," Morton told French outlet Le Progres. "I think at that moment, I was ready to play. I'm not saying that no one believed it, but I think I was ready, and Klopp thought so too.

"He gave me the opportunity to play on the biggest stage for a very big club. He believed in me, allowed me to go out on loan to develop. Jurgen just wanted the best for me, he made me play great matches in the Champions League and the Premier League. It was a remarkable period, he made me progress at all levels."

Speaking about Slot, Morton said: "With Arne Slot, I didn't play as much as I wanted, even though I was ready. It was his decision, and I took it calmly, but I had to find another path. He was very open and very honest with me at the end of last season.

"We talked a lot, and he let me join OL. I will be eternally grateful to Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, in different ways. They are excellent managers, but also great men."
