Real Madrid
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants Real Madrid left back, Alvaro Carreras. The Spanish defender is also quite interested to join the Gunners next season. Arteta has already planned to give him a key role if he joins the north London club.
Does Arsenal readily need Alvaro Carreras on the left back position?
Arsenal have been defensively very good this season in all competitions. In Premier League, they have conceded just 26 goals, as per FBref. This is the least amount in the league so far. Arteta has got some good left backs in his team.
Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ricardo Calafiori are the only pure left backs in the present Arsenal team. Ricardo Calafiori has suffered a lot of injuries this season. He had to be sidelined for most of the matches. Lewis-Skelly is still a young, talented prospect. He broke into the first team last season. The youngster had given consistent good performances that time. But this year, Arteta did not use him much.
Therefore, Piero Hincapie is the remaining option for the Gunners. Arteta has used him in his preferred centre back and makeshift left back role. The Ecuadorian has consistently delivered strong defensive performances on the left flank. The Premier League side will trigger the €52 million buy option in his deal. He is currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. Hincapie will become permanent at the end of the season.
This interprets that Arsenal have no urgency to secure a signing of a left back. They have enough defenders to play on that position. But the club is carefully planning to bring a left back at Emirates. Alvaro Carreras’ links with Arsenal are very strong currently.

Report says Alvaro Carreras to Arsenal can happen in this summer
According to reports, Arsenal hierarchy will try to to sign a good left back in the summer transfer window. The Gunners are heavily interested to go for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras. Spanish coach Mikel Arteta really likes the former Manchester United U-21 player.
The Arsenal boss wants the club to make a move for the 23-year-old. Alvaro Carreras is currently the star of Real Madrid. He is their main left back. Carerras had just moved to Madrid a year ago from Benfica. He made a €50 million move from Portuguese league to Santiago Bernabeu in July of 2025.
But Carreras would be happy to take an exit from Bernabeu. He may join the Emirates side in London. Mikel Arteta aspires to give a suitable role to the young Spanish left back in the team. This has attracted the 23-year-old to join the Premier League side.
The report states, “Arteta’s willingness to offer Carreras a meaningful role within the squad has made the move increasingly attractive from the player’s perspective”.
Will Real Madrid let go Alvaro Carreras in the next season?
Real Madrid consider Alvaro Carreras as their starting left back in the long-term. His football performances have proved him to be a good signing for the La Liga side. Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy are the other two left backs in the squad.
