Liverpool in line for £16m transfer windfall as Arne Slot waits on sack decision

Liverpool spent big in the last summer transfer window, splashing out more than £400million on new players and who's to say they will not do similarly in the upcoming summer window, particularly if they have a new manager?

Pressure is on Arne Slot, despite having won the Premier League title in his first season in England, with the Reds struggling under his stewardship in their second campaign.

Liverpool are fourth in the table, 15 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, whom they beat to the title in 2024/25.

Crucially, however, they look well set to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, thanks to England having five spots for the second year running.

And that could keep the Dutchman in a job next season.

Slot has the support of the owners at Anfield and despite rumours of the axe being wielded, a summer review will determine his fate at the club.

Whether he is the man to make changes in the summer transfer window remains to be seen, then, but whoever is in charge will be bolstered by a nice little windfall - providing Liverpool see the job through in the final few weeks of the season.

Finishing in the top five brings not only the achievement of qjualifying for the Champions League, but the financial rewards that come with it.

By qualifying for the Champions League, clubs will receive a £16million windfall - based on the 2025/26 season's financial figures - plus at least £240,000 for finishing bottom of the league phase next year. Every place in the league adds another £240,000 on, with the table-toppers getting £8.6million, plus a £1.8million bonus for finishing in the top eight.

Liverpool need just five points from their remaining four games to guarantee Champions League football next season, with sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion only able to get to a maximum of 62 points. Liverpool have 58 currently, with games against Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford to play.

Of course, the Reds need five points if Brighton were to win all four of their remaining matches and the total needed would come down exponentially.

Once Champions League football is guaranteed, the Reds are then guaranteed £16.3million - more if the figures go up for next season - to spend on transfers this summer, if that's where the money is allocated by the owners.
