Flight to London inbound: Berta closing in on signing Arsenal's new Eze for bargain fee -…

Fresh from another frustrating attacking display centred around one controversial penalty decision, Arsenal are on the hunt for some excitement in their life.

The Gunners had a tough act to follow when Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich opened with a nine-goal thriller on Tuesday, but neither them nor Atletico Madrid were ever likely to be in the same, open mood as their counterparts.

Gyokeres-Arsenal

It's an approach that many have questioned and one that Andrea Berta may be looking to change by signing another Eberechi Eze this summer.

Arsenal could sign Eze 2.0 this summer

When Mikel Arteta made the decision to freeze Eze out of the side in the early stages of the campaign, it was certainly questionable.

Whilst the Spaniard clearly wasn't happy with the attacker's work out of possession, this was still the same player who scored a hat-trick in the North London derby.

In a team full of pragmatism, Eze remains one of the few sparks capable of making it all worthwhile. He almost proved that against Manchester City when he struck the post, before proving it against Newcastle United and would have stolen the headlines against Atletico Madrid if it wasn't for a controversial penalty call.

Arteta will bemoan the decision, and perhaps rightly so, but he should also find time to praise Eze. It's become clear in recent weeks that the former Crystal Palace man will play a crucial part if Arsenal are to get over the line in the Premier League title race.

Eze's recent influence has also taken Berta to the transfer market to find a talented repeat.

Indeed, according to Sportinjo in Serbia, and relayed by FCInter1908, the Gunners are set to steal one of Inter's most exciting targets away from them.

Kostov-Red-Star

Wonderkid Vasilije Kostov could fly to London 'as early as this week' as Berta closes in on his signature - potentially making him Arsenal's first signing of the summer.

It's reported that an initial fee of £10m is likely to take him to England with a move closing in on an agreement.

How the talented Kostov could be the new Eze at Arsenal

Still just 17 years old, Kostov may be one for the future, but that's not stopping Berta from making his move.

The attacking midfielder could be about to join a whole host of young stars in North London, including of course the Premier League's youngest ever goalscorer, Max Dowman.

It's clear to see why Arsenal have set their sights on Kostov, too. The midfielder is versatile enough to step into an advanced role and can crucially play as more of a deep-lying playmaker - where Arteta often asks Martin Odegaard to operate.

Como scout Ben Mattinson even went as far to suggest that Kostov looks like he's "just stepped out of La Masia" and that should be music to Arteta's ears. Indeed, if that means his side receives a higher level of technical security then it will be a huge boon for Arsenal.

When it comes to technique and ability to complete line-breaking passes, Eze and Kostov both provide the same threat. Both can strike from range and both will influence play in a deeper role when handed the chance.

League stats 25/26 Eze Kostov

Minutes 1,667 2,411

Touches in opposition box 57 112

Chances created 14 79

Duel success 51.8% 44.4%

Goals 7 12

Assists 2 7

Kostov's numbers in senior football at just 17 years old are simply sensational. The teenager has taken Serbia by storm with Red Star Belgrade and could go on to do the same in North London.

Whilst he does share similar traits with Eze in terms of how he breaks defensive blocks, the Serbian could even become an instant upgrade.

Of course it's worth noting that he'd have less time in the Premier League and play a more disciplined role under Arteta, which could limit his touches in the box, but Kostov looks like the entertainer that Arsenal have lacked all season. It's his youthful exuberance that could make an unexpected difference.
