Adam Wharton has insisted that he will not be distracted by transfer rumors linking him with a move to Liverpool or Manchester United, among others, ahead of the summer.

The 22-year-old England international could leave Selhurst Park this summer with a reported price tag of more than $100M. Liverpool may need midfield reinforcements with Curtis Jones only tied down until 2027 as things stand and Alexis Mac Allister having struggled at times this term.

Whether Wharton would be a genuine option for Liverpool remains to be seen, but there is expected to be widespread interest in the player when the season ends. A strong World Cup with England would only increase that.

"Obviously the praise is good and being linked with big clubs it’s obviously a compliment in a way," Wharton said, via Sky Sports, ahead of Crystal Palace taking on Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Conference League.

"As much praise as you get, there’s also the other side of it where other people don’t think you are doing very well or other clubs don’t want you because they don’t like this thing about you.

"I don’t really pay attention to it. I know that I’m doing well. The coach will tell me.

"To them, they’re the ones who can have the biggest impact on me and help me develop my career.

"The outside ones, I don’t really focus on it. I just try to focus on myself."

Wharton has established himself in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace in the winter of 2024. He previously played for Blackburn in the Championship.

Earlier this week, the former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant suggested that Arne Slot should look to sign either Wharton or one of his England teammates.

"It’s going to be so important to get those midfield roles right isn’t it?" he said. "Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton in that number six, would be absolutely perfect for that role."

Wharton played the full 90 minutes at Anfield recently when Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners. The Reds collected the three points with Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz getting on the scoresheet.

Liverpool.com says: Wharton is clearly very talented but he isn't the most robust. His injury history is patchy and he is fairly similar to Ryan Gravenberch in not necessarily being strong in the tackle. He might be too similar to pair with the Dutchman.
