He's keen to join: Arteta wants one-time Man Utd wonderkid at Arsenal this summer - report

Arsenal are drafting up their plans for the coming summer transfer window, where a former Manchester United wonderkid appears to be an option, according to reports.

The Gunners are potentially six games away from sealing immortality in the minds of fans, with the Premier League title and Champions League trophy all on the line.

While Mikel Arteta will be keen to ensure that success is achieved in the short-term, the football world still revolves, and there will be another season to come, and another after that.

With that in mind, the Arsenal hierarchy will already be thinking about the next evolution of this current squad, with a firm eye fixed on the future, and one such target fills that need to look beyond the end of the campaign.

Arsenal linked with Alvaro Carreras transfer

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are keen on a move for Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arteta has been described as an 'admirer' of the 23-year-old, who was previously touted as a wonderkid during his time at Manchester United, before his switch to Benfica, and then back to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos paid a £43.3 million fee for the defender last summer, and he has been a fairly regular starter on his return to the Bernabeu, with 38 appearances to his name across all competitions. It's claimed that Arteta's long-term view of using Carreras in the team has made the move "attractive" to the player, as he weighs up his options this summer.

Premier League rivals Man United are said to have interest in a return once again for the Spaniard, while Juventus and Napoli are believed to be monitoring the situation.

Given how recently he moved, the game time he has received, and the contract lasting until 2031, it could be a difficult deal to do, however.

Arsenal face full-back transfer problem

If Arsenal do look to change up their full-back ranks this summer, as has been suggested in the report, then there should be some movement going out of the squad, before any movement in.

Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie have been sharing the minutes at left-back, which has somewhat shunned Myles Lewis-Skelly, one year on from his impressive breakout into the first-team.

Arteta has struggled to give proper game time to all three, and with Hincapie likely to join permanently at the end of his loan deal, it seems more likely that Lewis-Skelly would have to leave out of those available.

The right-back position has been slightly more awkward to deal with, as Jurrien Timber and Ben White have both been out at different times due to injury.

There has been a need to call on Cristhian Mosquera at times, but it would be tough to see Arsenal carrying three right-backs at any one time.

If the Gunners do strengthen there, then it may be on sporting director Andrea Berta to get some exits sorted, and given the difficulty the club has faced in recent windows in raising funds, it could be quite the challenge.
