Manchester United could have some players on the sidelines when Liverpool head to Old Trafford this weekend. Arne Slot's side go up against United in their latest fixture in the battle to secure Champions League qualification.
The Reda are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and have an eight-point cushion over the Champions League qualification spots.
Liverpool have been forced to deal with several injury concerns this season, as is the case for United, with a fresh update emerging on Friday.
United interim head coach Michael Carrick spoke to reporters on Friday before the clash against Liverpool and provided an update on his squad's fitness.
As a result, the ECHO takes a look at how United's injury list fares ahead of Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford this weekend:
Matheus Cunha
United are optimistic that Matheus Cunha has recovered from injury in time to be available against Liverpool.
Cunha was absent from United's victory over Brentford due to a hip problem, but Carrick has outlined why he remains confident the Brazilian could be included in this weekend's matchday squad.
"Matheus has done a little bit of work so we’re hopeful. We're not sure, but we're hopeful,” Carrick said on Friday.
Potential return date: Liverpool (H) - May 3 - Premier League.
Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw was withdrawn during United's victory over Brentford last weekend, prompting concerns that the defender could be facing a stint on the sidelines.
Carrick did not provide a specific update on Shaw's fitness, leaving it unclear whether the England international will be available to feature against Liverpool.
Potential return date: Liverpool (H) - May 3 - Premier League.
Matthijs de Ligt
Matthijs de Ligt is moving closer to a comeback for United, having been ruled out with a back injury since November.
De Ligt will not be available for selection against Liverpool, with Carrick providing an update ahead of the Old Trafford clash.
“Mata [De Ligt] still a bit further and not involved in the game," said Carrick.
Potential return date: Unknown
Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez remains suspended following his red card during last month's defeat to Leeds United.
The fixture against Liverpool will represent the final match of his three-game ban, meaning the defender will be free to rejoin the squad the following weekend.
Potential return date: Sunderland (A) - May 9
