Liverpool's two-man shortlist to replace Mohamed Salah with 'contact already made'

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a summer swoop for Bradley Barcola and could possess a considerable advantage in the pursuit, despite suggestions that Paris Saint-Germain may initiate contract discussions imminently. Barcola was also linked with Liverpool last summer following Luis Diaz's departure from Anfield to join Bayern Munich for £65.5 million.

With Mohamed Salah poised to leave at the end of the campaign, Liverpool are evaluating their attacking options. The Egyptian will depart following a stellar Anfield career, though this has been his most difficult season on Merseyside, scoring just seven Premier League goals.

A report in The Times claims Liverpool will likely include Barcola on a list of potential reinforcements for the forthcoming transfer window.

However, L'Equipe note that PSG are prioritising a fresh contract for the Frenchman, with discussions regarding Ousmane Dembele currently on hold.

Thus far, PSG's main obstacle in negotiations has been determining Barcola's role within the squad.

Should talks fail to progress, that could prove advantageous for Liverpool as they would be positioned to offer him consistent playing time.

With Salah departing, it creates an obvious vacancy on the right flank and considerably less competition than he presently encounters at PSG.

At Parc des Princes, Barcola has featured in 17 Ligue 1 matches from the start, yet his place in the side is far from secure given the competition posed by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue.

The French international has been with PSG since August 2023, having begun his career at Lyon. During his spell in the French capital, he has netted 38 times and laid on 37 assists in 146 outings.

Alongside Barcola, RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is also being considered.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have already made contact with the midfielder's representatives regarding a potential switch to Anfield.

Diomande has emerged as one of the most coveted young talents on the continent following an outstanding debut Bundesliga campaign with Leipzig.

They are reported to value him at approximately £87m, a sum that may well put off a number of interested parties. Other reports have suggested that PSG are also keen.
