Scouts sent: Rangers on red-alert to launch deal for star who's "ready" to move

Rangers have now received a major boost in their attempts to sign Luca Stephenson, who is "ready" to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Rangers make in-person checks on Stephenson

With or without the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the season, no one can deny that Danny Rohl has made an impact at Ibrox since arriving. He's dragged a side left in disarray by Russell Martin into the title picture and still in with a shot at silverware in the final four games.

His value has risen £31m at Ibrox: Rangers have struck gold on the new Kamara

It wasn't so long ago that Glen Kamara was stealing the headlines at Ibrox, but Rangers have now found themselves a repeat.

As far as the 49ers are concerned, he is the man for the job. The American owners already backed Rohl during the January transfer window - welcoming the likes of Tochi Chukwuani and Andreas Skov Olsen. Now, as the summer approaches, they're likely to splash the cash even more.

Recent reports have mentioned a whole host of names, including Liverpool icon Mohamed Salah, who is set to become a free agent. Even if that move will be near-impossible this summer, it reflects well on Rangers' ambitions that the Egyptian's even on their radar.

Salah's not the only Liverpool player on the Gers' radar, either. According to Football Insider, Rangers are on red alert to sign Stephenson and lining up an offer, following news that he's "ready" to leave Anfield on a permanent basis this summer.

Stephenson "ready" to leave Liverpool

Stephenson enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Dundee United this season, before injury cut things short. Now, he's looking to end his Liverpool career entirely.

Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke revealed: "He’s had his season ended by a new injury at Dundee United, but up until then he was having a fine season for the Tannadice club.

"Long-term, Stephenson is ready to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis. He wants to find a permanent home and nail down a place in the starting XI on a regular basis as well, and he doesn’t think he will get that at Liverpool. So there are a number of clubs on alert and ready to offer him a move away from Anfield."

Having already sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old this season, those at Ibrox will also be aware that the Liverpool youngster can play right-back and potentially hand them a long-term heir to James Tavernier.

The veteran captain is set to leave the club at the end of the season and finding a replacement certainly won't be easy, but Stephenson can offer exactly that.

All signs are pointing towards a return to Scotland in a move that would work for all parties this summer. Whether Rangers do turn their interest into an offer remains to be seen, however.
