Former Everton winger Anthony Gordon has been described as someone who could have a place at rivals Liverpool by former Reds star Didi Hamann. England international Gordon was close to moving to Anfield in the past and has previously addressed his fondness for Hamann's old team-mate Steven Gerrard.

A £75million move from Newcastle to Liverpool looked close in the summer of 2024, but the plug was eventually pulled before Gordon signed a contract extension. The winger, who is in the England picture for this summer's World Cup, has been tipped to leave St James' Park this year with Bayern Munich among the potential suitors.

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is another player to have been linked with both Liverpool and Bayern, with Hamann suggesting the Ivorian would be a fantastic addition for Liverpool. However, he isn't ruling out the "dream" scenario of moves for Diomande and Gordon in the same window.

"There's a place for Anthony Gordon at Liverpool," Hamann told NewBettingOffers.co.uk. "That's a move I can really see because Liverpool need a player in that position, and I don't think there are too many better ones in the Premier League than Anthony Gordon. He also plays up top at times. He's versatile, he's an excellent player."

He suggested £86m-rated Diomande would have little trouble adapting to the Premier League, especially with Liverpool's fanbase behind him. A double-swoop wouldn't come cheap, but the Champions League-winning midfielder allowed himself to get excited by the prospect.

"Signing Diomande and Anthony Gordon would be a dream summer for Liverpool, but they’ve got to be careful," he added. "I thought last season, after the success of the season before and the signings, that there was no way they wouldn't win the league. But certainly, if they get these two players and they stay injury-free, I think they're sorted for the next few years."

Gordon spent a brief period in Liverpool's academy before joining Everton's ranks at the age of 11. He comes from a family of Liverpool fans and has addressed this in the past.

"I have no family members who support Everton. None, not one. All Liverpool so it was quite strange," Gordon said during an appearance on panel show A League of their Own. "So I was at Liverpool and they released me at 11 and then Everton signed me.

"As long as they lost it was alright. Like if I ever scored, they were like, 'if you score great but we still want you to lose'. My family are really, really bitter Liverpool fans."

Gordon also spoke about Liverpool during a roommates quiz with England team-mate and Reds midfielder Curtis Jones in April 2025. Jones correctly guessed Gerrard was the winger's footballing hero, prompting Gordon to say: "“I think every Scouser’s idol, isn’t he?”

It wasn't the first time the former Everton winger has spoken about Gerrard in such glowing terms. The topic was also addressed during an appearance on The Overlap, where he was speaking to ex-England defender Gary Neville.

“Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up," Gordon said. "Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”
