Player 'ready to leave' Liverpool amid Rangers links as 'a number of clubs on alert' over…

The defender has spent the last couple of seasons in Scotland on loan from Liverpool.

A report has claimed a Liverpool player is ready to leave Anfield for good amid talk of Rangers.

Luca Stephenson has shone across a couple of loans in the Premiership with Dundee United. Injury looks to have ended his latest Tangerines stint but he will have a future decision to make upon heading back to Merseyside in the summer. Rangers are one club who have been linked with the defender who can play both full-backs positions and wide midfield.

Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke claims Stephenson will seek a permanent home this summer after a couple of terms away from Liverpool on the road. It’s stated that the Ibrox side are one of the sides who have kept tabs and there are expected to be others making their intentions known in the window.

What Liverpool player could make a transfer move this summer

O’Rourke said on the Transfer Insider podcast: “He’s somebody that Rangers did look at and were keeping tabs on, Luca Stephenson, due to his form on loan at Dundee United. He’s had his season ended by a new injury at Dundee United, but up until then he was having a fine season for the Tannadice club.

“Long-term, Stephenson is ready to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis. He wants to find a permanent home and nail down a place in the starting XI on a regular basis as well, and he doesn’t think he will get that at Liverpool. So there are a number of clubs on alert and ready to offer him a move away from Anfield.”

Stephenson told club media of his Dundee United loan in March: “To be fair, it’s a lot of credit to the gaffer (Jim Goodwin) and the confidence he instilled with me from the minute I walked through the door there. Last season when I first went in, I had a decent start but made a couple of mistakes.

“I kind of got us knocked out of the cup quarter-final at Motherwell, giving away a penalty, but he stuck with me and the trust he put in me after those games, he didn’t take me out, he just kept me in the team and gave me that confidence. When we got to the summer this year and he wanted to take me back, I knew that he could help me take my game another step up again and I knew the trust he would have in me if I kept on putting in the kind of performances.

“I knew it would only be a benefit for me and the kind of environment he’s created within the training ground with all the staff, it’s an enjoyable place for me to play football and learn at such a young age. I think I’ve done really well on a personal level, to be fair.

“Obviously the team has struggled in parts this year for kind of different reasons – new squad, younger squad, a little bit inexperienced at times. But on a personal level, I think I’ve had another really good year, racked the games up and I have contributed more goals and assists than I did last year, obviously with still games to go. I think I’ve added more quality, really, this year and added more to my game and more to the team than I did last year, which is really positive on a personal level.”
