Givairo Read
Manchester City and Bayern Munich have shown serious interest Feyenoord star Givairo Read ahead of the summer window.
In November, Sport Witness relayed news that Manchester City sent an official to the Netherlands to watch the 19-year-old live in action.
On April 22nd, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press about Manchester City and Bayern Munich’s keen interest.
The same source stated Feyenoord are excited about the Citizens’ interest. That’s because their technical director, Dennis te Kloese, is counting on a club-record sale of over €32m.
Read joined the Eredivisie side on a free transfer in July 2023, after a spell at FC Volendam.
Since then, the right-back has played 51 matches and 17 are from this season. He picked up a hamstring injury in November before suffering another setback in January and only returned to the pitch last month.
His Eredivisie states this season are as follows:
Appearances: 13
Starts: 10
Total minutes played: 811
Minutes per game: 62
Interceptions per game: 0.8
Tackles per game: 1.3
Possession won (final third): 0.2
Recoveries per game: 2.7
Clearances per game: 1.6
Duels won per game: 2.9
Boost for Manchester City and Bayern Munich
An ‘interesting summer awaits’ Givairo Read as both Pep Guardiola’s side and the German champions are keen.
That’s according to 1908.nl, who report Manchester City and Bayern Munich have closely followed the fullback.
Feyenoord face Fortuna Sittard in the league clash on Sunday and their manager, Robin van Persie, spoke to the reporters at the pre-match press conference on Friday. He talked about the Netherlands U21 international’s character.
“Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days. As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing,” he said.
“He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi. I think that is really great to see.”
With Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the picture, the Feyenoord boss backs him to move to a top club in the next window.
“As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player. I certainly think he can make that step,” Van Persie explained.
Our take: Competition at Manchester City
Pep Guardiola has Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis as the two right-backs at the Etihad this season.
If Givairo Read were to move to Manchester City, he’ll to compete for a place in their starting lineup. At 19, that may not be the best development step.
Transfermarkt value the Dutchman, who has a contract until 2029, at €25m.
