Former Everton winger Anthony Gordon has been identified as a player who could fit in at rivals Liverpool, according to former Reds stalwart Didi Hamann. England international Gordon came close to making the switch to Anfield previously and has openly spoken about his admiration for Hamann's former team-mate Steven Gerrard.

A transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool appeared imminent in the summer of 2024, but the deal ultimately fell through before Gordon put pen to paper on a contract extension. The winger, who is in contention for England's squad ahead of this summer's World Cup, is widely expected to depart St James' Park this year, with Bayern Munich amongst the clubs reportedly circling.

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is another name to have been linked with both Liverpool and Bayern, with Hamann backing the Ivorian as a superb acquisition for Liverpool. Nevertheless, he is not dismissing the "dream" prospect of securing both Diomande and Gordon in the same transfer window.

"There's a place for Anthony Gordon at Liverpool," Hamann told NewBettingOffers.co.uk. "That's a move I can really see because Liverpool need a player in that position, and I don't think there are too many better ones in the Premier League than Anthony Gordon. He also plays up top at times. He's versatile, he's an excellent player."

He believes Diomande would have little difficulty adjusting to the Premier League, particularly with Liverpool's supporters backing him. A double-swoop wouldn't be inexpensive, but the Champions League-winning midfielder permitted himself to become excited by the possibility.

"Signing Diomande and Anthony Gordon would be a dream summer for Liverpool, but they've got to be careful," he added. "I thought last season, after the success of the season before and the signings, that there was no way they wouldn't win the league. But certainly, if they get these two players and they stay injury-free, I think they're sorted for the next few years."

Gordon spent a short spell in Liverpool's academy before joining Everton's youth system at the age of 11. He comes from a family of Liverpool supporters and has addressed this previously.

"I have no family members who support Everton. None, not one. All Liverpool so it was quite strange," Gordon said during an appearance on panel show A League of their Own. "So I was at Liverpool and they released me at 11 and then Everton signed me.

"As long as they lost it was alright. Like if I ever scored, they were like, 'if you score great but we still want you to lose'. My family are really, really bitter Liverpool fans." Gordon also discussed Liverpool while participating in a roommates quiz with England colleague and Reds midfielder Curtis Jones in April 2025. Jones accurately identified Gerrard as the winger's footballing idol, leading Gordon to say: ""I think every Scouser's idol, isn't he?""

This wasn't the first occasion the former Everton winger has praised Gerrard so enthusiastically. The subject came up previously during his conversation on The Overlap with former England defender Gary Neville.

"Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up," Gordon stated. "Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player."
