Jamie Carragher admits he "can't wait" for Liverpool's season to be over but believes Arne Slot's status as a Premier League winner means he can put things right next term.

The Reds have endured a difficult defence of the crown they clinched last April, with 10 defeats so far being the most in a decade at Anfield, with four games still left to play, starting with Sunday's trip to Manchester United.

Slot's long-term suitability has been questioned as a result and the head coach heads into this summer with just a year left on the contract he signed in 2024 to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Reds legend Carragher, who made 737 appearances for the club, admits it's been far from satisfactory but says Slot is capable of improving things across the board next term

"It's not been a great season from a Liverpool point of view," Carragher said. "I can't wait for it to be over and we can start again next season.

"But listen, we've spoiled in the last 10 years. You know, last season we won the league, so we're allowed an off season. But hopefully that doesn't happen next season.

"He's a manager who has won the Premier League and there are lots of clubs now who are looking for new managers and they want to find a manager who they think can win the league. So Liverpool have got one, he's won the league before."

Carragher added: "But listen, [Slot] will be disappointed as everyone who is associated with Liverpool is with how this season's gone.

"But it looks like he is going to be the manager next season, so let's get behind him and hopefully we have a better season next season.

"As I said, he's won the Premier League, so why can't he do it again?"

After Sunday's trip to United, the Reds host Chelsea and visit Aston Villa before their season concludes with a meeting with Brentford on May 24 at Anfield.
