Liverpool open talks to sign £50m star who 'has shades of Messi and Ronaldo' - report

Liverpool have made contact with Sporting CP over a deal to sign Trincao as a replacement for Mohamed Salah this summer, according to Anfield Index.

The Reds are preparing for the new season already after all-but securing their place in next season's UEFA Champions League, while they are out of the domestic cups and Europe with just four games remaining to play in the campaign.

Salah is already confirmed to be leaving the club this summer after nine seasons in the Premier League, and the club are eyeing a number of targets as potential replacements, including the Portugal international.

Trincao, who has been compared to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, has been in fine form for the Portuguese champions this season, registering 30 goal contributions across all competitions.

His form has seen Sporting look to tie his long-term future down in Lisbon, and he signed a new contract earlier this year. However, that deal is understood to contain a €60m (£50m) release clause, and Liverpool are eyeing up a potential swoop to bring him back to the Premier League.

According to the report, Liverpool have made 'serious enquiries' in recent times over the potential of a deal, as they eye up players who can play on the right wing and cut inside, in a similar fashion to what Salah has done for years.

It's unclear how highly ranked Trincao is in the shortlist, with Liverpool also looking at Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola as options, but the club are serious about their interest in the former Wolves star, with Richard Hughes understood to be a huge fan.

Trincao Could Be Perfect Wide Option

As a player with top-level experience in the Champions League, international level and even the Premier League, Trincao could be a really interesting addition to the squad at Anfield if he were to join.

The 26-year-old is in the prime of his career and looks ready for the step up in competition, and the fee isn't one that would demand he has to play every single game. However, he would provide a goal threat and creativity from out wide, and would fit Slot's system on the pitch too.

The same way Liverpool brought in Salah and Sadio Mane when they were lesser-known and ready to explode, Trincao could be the next version of that deal in 2026.
