Just in: 'World-class' forward to miss Man Utd vs Liverpool with injury

Manchester United will take on Liverpool in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon in a huge clash, with big implications for Champions League football next season.

The Red Devils currently sit third in the table, three points ahead of their opponents, and ten points clear of sixth-placed Brentford, meaning they need just a draw to secure Champions League qualification for next season, while a win would do the same for Arne Slot's side.

But less than 24 hours before kick-off, it has been revealed that one top attacker will miss the huge game due to injury, in a huge blow to his side's chances of victory.

Alexander Isak Ruled Out With Injury

According to a report by The Sun, Liverpool striker Alexander Isak will miss the trip to Old Trafford with a groin injury.

Isak, who has been dubbed 'world-class', joined the Anfield club last summer in a British record £130m deal from Newcastle United, but has been plagued by injuries for much of the campaign, meaning he has scored just four times for his new club in 21 appearances this season.

But the Sweden international netted his first goal since December, when he broke his leg, against Crystal Palace last time out, and was hoping to lead the line against Man Utd to continue his form and build some momentum.

But a groin strain means he will not travel with Arne Slot's side for the game, and the Dutch coach now faces a major headache over who to play in attack with Hugo Ekitike and Mohamed Salah also sidelined due to injury ahead of the game.

Isak Injury a Huge Blow for Liverpool

Liverpool are heading to Old Trafford looking to get revenge for the defeat at Anfield earlier in the campaign, but they will be without a host of first-choice attackers.

Ekitike is out for the rest of 2026 after rupturing his achilles, while Salah suffered a hamstring injury against Palace and will miss the game alongside Isak. That leaves Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Federico Chiesa, and 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha as attacking options for the clash.

Man Utd, on the other hand, are almost at full strength, with Patrick Dorgu returning from injury recently against Brentford, but defenders Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez will miss out due to injury and suspension respectively.

It's a huge blow for Slot and Liverpool on the eve of the game, and hands Man Utd a huge opportunity to do the double over their rivals for the first time since 2016.
