Liverpool have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United as striker Alexander Isak is set to miss out. The Sweden international has reportedly picked up an injury that will rule him out of the trip to Old Trafford, leaving his side without a senior striker.
According to The Sun, Isak has picked up a groin strain in training and will not be fit enough to face the Red Devils. The striker will undergo tests in the coming days to determine the severity of his injury in relation to the remainder of the Premier League season.
Alexander Isak has endured an injury-hit season since his switch from Newcastle United for a British record fee of £125 million. The 26-year-old suffered a fractured leg earlier this season and has played just five times since returning to fitness following the injury. He will now face another spell on the sidelines, and Arne Slot will hope to have him feature again this season.
Liverpool will have to face Manchester United without a recognized senior striker as fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike ruptured his Achilles last month, as well. The Frenchman is set to miss out on the remainder of the year after undergoing surgery to repair his injury.
Slot's side will have one of Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, or Florian Wirtz lead the line as a false nine when they show up at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Reds are already significantly short-handed, with Mohamed Salah also set to be absent from the game through injury.

Club insider DaveOCKOP has revealed on X that the teenage star could be in line for his senior debut for the club, having only joined from Salford City last summer. He was named on the bench for their last league game against Crystal Palace, and could be called upon to feature this time, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike ruled out.
Liverpool beat Arsenal to the signature of Wright last summer after he broke through at Salford City, and he has been impressive in their youth ranks. He has scored six goals and provided five assists in 15 appearances for the U-21 team in PL2, and could look to make an impact in the senior side.
