Lewis-Skelly was 'buzzing' at Arsenal victory against Fulham

Myles Lewis-Skelly spoke about being back in his natural role as Arsenal defeated **Fulham**3-0.

The 19-year-old has only started twice in the Premier League this season, and on both occasions, he featured from the role of a left back. The first time was as a late enforced replacement for the injured Riccardo Calafiori against Brighton in December, and the other was a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.

But Mikel Arteta asked him to start in the middle of the park next to Declan Rice, and he stole the show with a classically imposing performance as the Gunners cut through the guests time and again.

‘We're all on the same wavelength’

Arsenal are now six points clear at the top of the table, piling pressure on Manchester City in the final month of the campaign. This showing was the perfect sendoff for Per Mertesacker, who has been involved in the youth development at the club, and a significant signal of intent in the title race.

“Honestly, I was buzzing. Being back in midfield, getting the trust from the gaffer and players again, just allows me to play my game and play it simple but also be effective, which was really good today.

“It's hugely important for me to set that tone. When you're in midfield, there's a certain rally you have to attain, which is to set the tone, get the engine of the team going. I thought I did a good job of that today. It's a credit to all our players because when we're all on the same wavelength, we're really feeling it, playing with synergy, playing with that energy together. I feel like we're one.

“[The fans] are my people, so I'm just so grateful to them. They're top, they give us so much energy and we're so grateful for them. And I want to say thanks to Per Mertesacker for everything he taught me. He's been a role model and the lessons he's instilled in me, I'm so grateful. I wish him the best.”
