Mohamed Salah will miss the opportunity to bid farewell to Manchester United on Sunday as Liverpool travel to Old Trafford. The 33-year-old picked up a muscle injury during the Reds' 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace last week, sparking concerns that he had already played his last game for the reigning Premier League champions.

However, the club confirmed earlier this week that Salah is expected to return before the season concludes. Yet his comeback will not arrive soon enough for him to face United one final time.

The Egyptian superstar has tormented Liverpool's rivals with 13 league goals against United since his arrival at Anfield in 2017, more than any other player in the competition's history. He has also netted seven times at Old Trafford, a record unmatched by any player throughout English top-flight history.

Ahead of the encounter, the winger has spoken out over a send-off his former team-mate never received. Meanwhile, Salah's former boss Jurgen Klopp may have the opportunity to address something he previously confessed was one of his greatest regrets.

We examine some of the latest stories surrounding the Merseyside club.

Klopp's chance to fix regret

Jurgen Klopp, Manager of Liverpool, embraces Harvey Elliott of Liverpool after the team's victory in the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Liverpool FC at Craven Cottage on April 21, 2024 in London, England.

Throughout his nine years at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp accomplished everything the game had to offer. Despite delivering the most prestigious honours back to Anfield, the German openly admitted to harbouring one significant regret during his time in charge.

Speaking ahead of his departure in May 2024, Klopp admitted he had regrets about not giving Harvey Elliott more game time during his final campaign. Despite the 23-year-old appearing in 53 matches across all competitions, he started only 11 league fixtures, prompting Klopp to say: "It's not like I go back and think, 'Where did we go wrong here and there?' But if I regret one thing a little bit it's that Harvey didn't play often enough, maybe.

"In a very important and intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, he played really good, probably our best player, whether it was right wing or right midfield, all these kind of things. [Then] everybody came back and he had a few minutes here and there and didn't start any more and then came on and made a big impact.

"It's really nice that he could show that." A chance to address his regret now exists through Klopp's position as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer and Liverpool's reported pursuit of RB Leipzig talent Yan Diomande.

According to The Telegraph, the 19-year-old prospect carries a price tag of €100million (£86m), and the Reds could potentially use Elliott as part of any deal. The Bundesliga outfit showed interest in the Liverpool midfielder last summer before he moved to Aston Villa on a season-long loan.

Salah's farewell admission

With Salah anticipated to receive a send-off befitting royalty in Liverpool's final league match of the campaign against Brentford, the Reds legend believes the club ought to arrange a proper farewell for Jordan Henderson.

The former Reds skipper was a pivotal figure in Liverpool's resurgence during an era that delivered the Premier League and Champions League titles. Following 12 years of dedication, the Brentford midfielder departed suddenly in 2023 for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq without a proper goodbye.

Yet he will make his return to Anfield on May 24 when the Bees face his old club, with Salah urging the organisation - and the supporters - to afford Henderson a memorable welcome. Speaking to Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports' The Breakdown, Salah said: "One more thing I'd really like to mention, and there is no better place to mention it than with you."

"I think the last game of the season is against Brentford and people in the city know how much it meant to Hendo also, being here, captain of the club, for 12 years - more than me, more than Virg, more than Robbo, more than anyone at the club.

"He didn't get the send off or farewell he deserved because he left immediately. I don't know how the club is going to manage it, I have no plan, I also don't know how the supporters will manage it but I really wish they do something special for him because he has been one of the best players at this club.

"Without him - and I have been there in the dressing room - without him we would not have achieved what we achieved, so I really hope the fans will give a good send off. I really hope so."
