Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon has moved a step closer to completing a spectacular summer transfer to Bayern Munich.

Gordon has appeared on the agenda of several leading teams, with Premier League table-toppers Arsenal among those sides interested in the former Everton man.

However, Bayern Munich have accelerated for the 25-year-old and head coach Vincent Kompany has given his approval for the deal to be concluded.

Gordon to Bayern gets crucial green light

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg confirmed on X: “Anthony Gordon’s management have been in contact with FC Bayern for months. Vincent Kompany has approved the deal. Contact remains ongoing.

“Despite other reports, there were no negotiations with his agent at Sabener Strasse last week, especially as another person within the agency is responsible for him.

“As revealed, Bayern have Plan B and C in place in case Gordon becomes too expensive.”

Gordon feels he has ‘outgrown’ Newcastle

Rumours that Gordon is pushing to leave Newcastle have been building for much of the last month.

A report in the Telegraph notably claimed that the winger feels that he has outgrown Newcastle, who in turn have been “frustrated” by the performances of the winger due to his poor Premier League form.

Despite Arsenal’s interest, it has been claimed that Gordon has been inspired to join Bayern Munich by the success that Michael Olise has enjoyed with the Bavarian side.

Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri claimed on X several weeks ago: “Bayern Munich have not ruled out a move for Anthony Gordon!

“The Bavarians already made contact with the player’s representatives.

“The Englishman, inspired by the success of Michael Olise, is not closing the door.”

Arsenal vs Bayern for Anthony Gordon

The battle between Arsenal and Bayern to sign Gordon is a particularly interesting one given that it will take place between the two best clubs in the world, according to SciSports.

Bayern are the top-rated club, according to the data analytics firm, with Premier League leaders Arsenal coming in second.

Ultimately, this is a deal that could come down to finances: who is willing to offer Newcastle the money that will prompt them into the sale of one of their stars, and who can offer Gordon the better project to take his career to another level.

Bayern seem to hold the edge for now.
