“A fantastic person”–Manager responds to Liverpool rumour, decision out of his hands

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has admitted he will leave Etiënne Reijnen to decide for himself about a move to Liverpool.

Voetbal Primeur report comments from the Feyenoord manager today regarding the potential switch to Liverpool in the coming months.

Feyenoord to Liverpool

Reports in both England and the Netherlands have linked Etiënne Reijnen with a potential move to Liverpool this summer.

Reds boss Arne Slot is, reportedly, keen to link up with his former Feyenoord coach at Anfield. He then admitted that it was logical for Liverpool to be looking in that area. The belief is that the club want a replacement for Aaron Briggs, the previous technical coach who left in December.

“It is completely logical that the club is looking for someone now after Aaron Briggs’ departure,” Slot told journalists when asked about the situation at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The issue was then put to Van Persie in his own pre-match press conference. And he admitted that any move is out of his hands.

“It is mainly up to the club and Etiënne himself,” he said.

“What I can say is that I am very happy with his work. He is a fantastic person who also fulfills his role very well.”

Arne Slot connections

Arne Slot turning to Feyenoord to bolster his backroom staff would not be any surprise. He already brought several Feyenoord staff members with him when he made the move to Liverpool last year.

Former FC Twente boss Marino Pusic, who worked with Slot at Feyenoord, has also revealed that he’s received offers from the Liverpool manager as well.

Indeed, former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld has urged Pusic to link up with Slot at Anfield if given the opportunity.

Now it appears that the latest on his list is Etiënne Reijnen. And it seems Van Persie won’t stand in his way if a move is on the table.
