The Times journalist Paul Joyce says “it would be no surprise” if Liverpool offer Harvey Elliott as part of their proposal for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
It is believed that Leipzig were keen on recruiting Elliott last summer, but the Bundesliga side were only prepared to pay around £20m for the player at the time.

The 23-year-old ultimately left on loan for Aston Villa, who had an obligation to buy him for £35m if he made 10 Premier League appearances.
However, manager Unai Emery made it clear very early on that the Villans were unwilling to pay the requisite figure, so Elliott has spent most of the season on the sidelines.
A part-exchange would reduce the cost of buying Diomande
Leipzig have all but sealed their place in next season’s Champions League, so there is no prospect of the Ivorian being sold for a knockdown price this summer.
Diomande‘s valuation was already €100m (£87m), and there is an intention to keep the player and tie him down to a new contract.
It means the only way of getting the player out of the club is by tabling an offer they cannot refuse. To do that, they could use Elliott to sweeten the deal.

The Liverpool star would need to be open to the move
Of course, there would be no point in offering Elliott if he isn’t interested in a switch to Germany. RB Leipzig do, though, have someone on their books who could be pretty persuasive.
Jurgen Klopp gave the midfielder his Reds debut, and he is currently Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer.
Elliott will be keen on getting assurances about first-team football after his nightmare experience at Villa, but it is an interesting situation to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
