Alexander Isak out vs. Man United – Liverpool striker injured in training

Alexander Isak misses Sunday’s match against Man United after picking up a groin injury in training at the end of the week.

Liverpool’s record signing had started the last three games after recovering from a broken leg suffered in December, scoring in last week’s win over Crystal Palace.

The final four games were set to be crucial for the £125 million player to get some rhythm and consistency, but he is now expected to be sidelined for up to a fortnight.

That means he could also miss next week’s visit of Chelsea to Anfield, though The Athletic’s James Pearce reports on X that he is expected to play again this season.

In his absence, Cody Gakpo will lead the Liverpool attack with Arne Slot making two changes as Ryan Gravenberch and Jeremie Frimpong come in.

With Mo Salah also sidelined, it leaves Slot’s side lacking their two main goal threats. Frimpong starts in Salah’s usual place on the right.

Isak has made 13 starts this season since his big money move from Newcastle, scoring three league goals.

In all competitions he has managed four goals in 21 games, averaging one every 252.3 minutes.

Liverpool face Man United at 3.30pm. United are guaranteed Champions League football next season, while Liverpool could also confirm their place if they win and Bournemouth fail to win against Palace.

The Reds are also without Alisson, with the goalkeeper failing a late fitness test. Freddie Woodman continues in his place with Giorgi Mamardashvili still out.

Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, and Hugo Ekitike remain long-term absentees, along with youngsters Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajcetic.
