The rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool is one of the fiercest in world football. The two Premier League giants exist among England's biggest clubs, which often leads to aggravation as they desperately attempt to prove themselves as the number one team in the land.
As things stand, the Reds have won 47 trophies, and so stand alone as the most successful English football team. But their Old Trafford counterparts aren't far behind with 44 honours to their name.
It seems as though the rivalry is so strong that some former players carry a dislike within them even long after their retirement. This appears to be the case for Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand.

Ahead of the Premier League match between Man Utd and Liverpool this weekend, Red Devils legend Ferdinand posted a provocative image on social media. It showed him screaming in the face of Carragher as he celebrated a goal with his teammates. He then said to his online followers: "Caption this…"
The post quickly went viral with hundreds of comments and over one million views in the space of a few hours. As such, it found its way to Carragher, who was clearly unhappy with the image.
He fired back at Ferdinand with a strong response, accusing him of 'bothering players' as a pundit. After adding his own joke caption, “Have some of that bruv, you Scouse xxxx” probably…….", Carragher said:
"Not like you to make sure you were in the picture of someone else’s goal. You now carry on this ritual by hanging around mixed zones bothering star players & asking your lackeys to film it!"
After both the iconic English defenders decided to call it quits on their careers, they have each gone into the world of punditry. Carragher has been part of the Sky Sports team for years now and is one of the best-paid football pundits in the United Kingdom.
These days, Ferdinand spends most of his time attempting to grow his YouTube empire as he regularly makes headlines with some strong takes on his Rio Ferdinand Presents channel.

This is not the first time the pair have clashed in retirement, either. Indeed, Ferdinand hit back at the ex-Liverpool defender after Carragher's comments on Casemiro, in which he famously siad: "Leave the football before the football leaves you."
Ferdinand later called the comments 'highly disrespectful'. He also then sent a public message to Carragher regarding the pundit's criticism of Mohamed Salah. This prompted the former Liverpool man to bring up the Man Utd legend's relationship with FIFA ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
He wrote: "Thoughts on the price of the World Cup tickets? A man of the people would surely call FIFA & Infantino out. Or was your pay packet for the draw (acting) to buy your silence?"
Clearly, the pair love to take every opportunity to antagonise one another.
