In what is always one of the most anticipated games of the English football calendar, Manchester United are hosting Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend. However, ahead of kick-off, legendary Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson was taken ill.

The 13-time league winner is one of the most revered coaches in the history of English football. As such, his presence will always be welcome at Old Trafford, especially ahead of a visit from fierce rivals Liverpool for what is always a highly anticipated game.

Worryingly, though, Ferguson felt unwell ahead of the Saturday afternoon kick-off, and had to leave early after being treated in an ambulance.

According to reports, the retired Scottish coach was at Old Trafford but has suffered a health scare. It's noted that he was then whisked away to an ambulance before the game started, having been feeling unwell.

Following his complaints, the Premier League icon was first attended to by medics in the Stretford End tunnel. He was taken away and checked over inside an ambulance. A source told SunSport that Sir Alex was sat up in the vehicle and “okay.”

Despite that, the 84-year-old decided to leave the stadium. At this stage, Man

United have declined to comment. According to reports in the Daily Mail, he was taken to hospital more than an hour before kick-off, just as a precaution, but it’s expected that he will soon be recuperating at home.
