The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare for the summer transfer window.
The England international has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks with United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool said to be keen on the versatile forward - but it is Bundesliga giants and Champions League semi-finalists Bayern Munich that have been widely reported to have held initial discussions with Gordon’s representatives.
Any possible sale of Gordon would have to factor in a 15 percent sell-on clause that was included in the £45million deal that brought the former Everton man to Tyneside as the Magpies handed over an initial £40million to secure a deal with a further £5million in add-ons to follow. There have been reports stating Newcastle will look for an agreement worth around £75million before authorising Gordon’s sale - although it remains to be seen whether Bayern would be willing to agree to that deal as they look to provide cover and competition for former Liverpool star Luis Diaz.
Addressing the speculation over Gordon’s future last month, United manager Eddie Howe said: "I think your best players will be the ones who are linked with high profile moves. It is certainly not helpful to us, it is not something we encourage or we want. We want players who are 100% focused, with no outside noise. Outside noise can affect players in different ways.
“Those players that you mentioned are all super professional, they are great players in their own way, in their own right. We need them to make the difference on the pitch and I would say the same to all the players. It is reputations and how people assess you is one thing but what you deliver on the pitch is another. We need our best players playing at their best level and that is what we need from all players stepping on to the pitch."
‘Attracting serious interest’

Gordon is expected to return to the Magpies squad for Saturday’s home clash with Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion after working his way back from a hip injury and Howe will hope he can play a part in an upturn in fortunes during the final weeks of the campaign. However, the game could represent the forward’s penultimate appearance at St James Park after journalist Romano delivered an update on the interest in the Magpies star.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “I tell you today that Anthony Gordon has really serious chances to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window. At the moment, Bayern are really interested in the player. Premier League clubs could also appear on scene quite soon.
“So, it’s between Bayern and Premier League at this stage, but Anthony Gordon is attracting serious interest and could be one of the names to watch. Depends also on the price tag Newcastle will decide. But according to my information, there is a serious strong possibility to see Anthony Gordon leaving Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.”
