Lee Dixon believes that Jeremie Frimpong should be fined for being offside during the first half against Manchester United.

The Reds utilized Frimpong as a right-winger in the absence of Mohamed Salah against the Red Devils at Old Trafford. Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko fired United into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes, as Michael Carrick’s side seized early control of the contest.

Frimpong found himself caught offside on multiple occasions during the first half, disrupting Liverpool’s attacking rhythm. The Dutchman’s mistimed runs halted promising moves and highlighted a lack of cohesion in the final third as the visitors struggled to build sustained pressure. Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher issues demand to Michael Edwards after watching messy Liverpool.

Speaking on NBC sports, Dixon said: "He should be fined for that. There should be a fine from the club for being offside in that position".

The Reds struggled to create meaningful chances until a loose pass from Amad Diallo shortly after his introduction gifted them an opening. Dominik Szoboszlai drove forward and finished with ease, before Cody Gakpo quickly brought the visitors level.

However, in a chaotic finale, Liverpool failed to deal with a delivery from Luke Shaw, allowing Kobbie Mainoo to pounce on the loose ball and fire a first-time strike into the bottom corner. United’s victory completed a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 2015–16 campaign, while also sealing its return to the Champions League after a two season absence with three matches to spare.

Arne Slot is likely to take encouragement from Liverpool's improved second-half display, but their lacklustre first-half performance ultimately proved costly, leaving them with too much to do after falling behind early.

Frimpong endured a difficult outing, losing possession eight times and registering three unsuccessful touches. He failed to win a tackle or record a clearance or block, while winning just two of his 10 duels and being dribbled past once. He also conceded two fouls and did not register a single shot, underlining a performance that offered little impact at either end of the pitch.

Frimpong has shown flashes of promise for the Reds this season, featuring both at right-back and in more advanced roles. However, a series of injuries have disrupted his progress during a crucial stage of his development.

The Dutchman has also been deployed on the wing at times, where—despite a lack of end product—he has arguably looked more effective, prompting fresh debate over his best position.

With his momentum repeatedly halted, questions remain over how the campaign may have shaped his long-term role within the squad.
