Arne Slot knows where Liverpool “have to improve” – but refuses to explain further

Arne Slot was aware that the “same issues” continue to plague Liverpool’s season, but was resistant to publicly explain how his side will improve next season.

For over 12 months, Liverpool have succumbed to similar issues match after match, with no obvious solution on hand to instil confidence that change can occur under Slot.

A compromised summer due to the World Cup only adds to the limited time Slot will have with his players, which would be the same issue if Liverpool were to change their head coach.

But after levelling the scores at Old Trafford only to still lose the match, Slot cut a frustrated figure post-match with Sky Sports, but insisted he knows “what we need to improve.”

He even pointed to the increased training time for working “hard” on what needs to be changed, although the number of days off for the squad has been heavily scrutinised.

"It's quite clear where we have to improve"

“The margins are not so big between us being able to win a game like this and not,” Slot explained.

“And I know quite clearly what we need to improve, and we are already working these weeks hard on that because we have a bit more training time now.

“As you said, the same issues mainly come back, and that’s not a complete surprise because there’s not a lot you can change during the season.

“Of course, tactically you can change, or certain things, but for us, for me, it is quite clear where we have to improve and we will improve next season.”

When asked if he could “share some of that with us,” in respect to what needs to improve, Slot quickly replied, “No.”

As a typically forthright figure, it came as a surprise to Sky’s Patrick Davison, as he questioned, “Why not this time?”

Slot offered this in response, “Because it doesn’t make sense to share that this time.”

Liverpool’s head coach clearly felt he did not need to divulge his inner thoughts publicly after his 19th loss of the campaign, but supporters will hope that stance will change.
