Jeremie Frimpong & Alexis Mac Allister toil – one doesn’t average 4/10 rating

It was a close call as to who Liverpool’s worst player was in their 3-2 defeat at Man United, with Jeremie Frimpong and Alexis Mac Allister both toiling.

The Reds may have come back from 2-0 down to level the scores on Sunday, but they were defeated in the end, and deservedly so after a poor display.

Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, GOAL and the TIA readers.

Frimpong (3.98) was hugely disappointing at Old Trafford, producing so little quality on the right wing.

He got the lowest average rating for Liverpool, with GOAL’s Tom Maston calling him an “absolute non-factor in the first half.”

Frimpong didn’t fare much better in the eyes of the Echo‘s Ian Doyle, who said he “did nothing” with the ball when he got it.

Mac Allister’s awful season continued against United, with the Argentine getting a 4.05 average.

TIA’s readers gave him just 3.2 overall, with the 27-year-old at the scene of the crime for Matheus Cunha and Kobbie Mainoo’s goals.

It was another quiet day for Florian Wirtz (5.03), with one commenter damningly describing him as “Florian the friendly ghost,” which isn’t ideal for a £116 million signing.

What the stats say: Szoboslzai gets 8.7 rating

According to FotMob, Dominik Szoboszlai (8.7) was Liverpool’s standout figure, helped by a goal and an assist.

The Hungarian also made the second-most defensive contributions for the Reds (10), with only Curtis Jones (11) ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Jones had an up-and-down game at right-back, but his tally of 20 passes into the final third was nine more than anyone else on the pitch.

Cody Gakpo may have equalised for Liverpool, but he was ineffective out of possession, only winning four out of 13 ground duels.

For Frimpong, his stats made for abysmal reading. He lost out in eight of 10 duels contested, made one pass into the final third (the joint-fewest of any Liverpool player despite playing right wing), made zero defensive contributions (lowest of any player), and no successful dribbles.
