Dominik Szoboszlai was critical of Liverpool’s lack of “focus” as they went 2-0 down, brought it back to 2-2 and then slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Man United.
Echoing the words of his manager, Szoboszlai claimed Liverpool had “controlled the game” in the second half at Old Trafford.
But it mattered not as Kobbie Mainoo was allowed to fire in brilliantly from the edge of the box after Alexis Mac Allister failed to clear his lines midway through the second half.
Mac Allister was not solely to blame, and fingers could be pointed at a number of players for their role in Man United‘s three goals, with Szoboszlai telling Sky Sports: “We have to be more focused.”

“Before the game when you speak about set-pieces, ‘don’t concede’, and [after six minutes] you concede from a set-piece,” he vented.
“You also talk about counter-attacks and the second goal happens from a counter-attack.
“I don’t know. We have to be more focused, we have to take more care of the details and in the end hopefully the luck is going to stay on our side.”
In his post-match interview with Viaplay, Szoboszlai added: “Actually without them creating any chances in the second half until the goal they scored, I think we controlled the game.
“Again, unlucky.”

The midfielder, who scored one and assisted the other for Cody Gakpo as Liverpool fought back in the second half, was asked where the problem lies.
“It’s just focusing until the end of the game, always,” he replied.
“Taking the momentum after you come back from 2-0 to 2-2, there you have to be a little bit more focused, more there for each other and not concede a goal like that.
“And then, everything would actually be better.”

Szoboszlai has been heralded as a future leader of this Liverpool squad, which is timely given Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and perhaps Alisson will all leave the club this summer.
Questioned on whether he saw that increasingly as part of his job, he said: “You have to ask the others.
“I try to do my best, I try to drag them with me, take them with me.
“Hopefully set an example day by day, game by game, that’s what I want to do. That’s going to be my plan for the last three games as well.”
