Liverpool have the perfect player in their ranks to help lure Yan Diomande to the club this summer. Diomande is being tipped for a big move in the off-season, having impressed for RB Leipzig so far this campaign.
Diomande has a hefty four years left on his contract at RB Leipzig, meaning any deal for the winger will likely come at a price. But the good news for the Merseysiders is that they could have just the trick to help bring the cost right down.
That’s because Harvey Elliott will return to the club after a disastrous loan spell at Aston Villa, where he’s made just four Premier League appearances all term. It had been touted as a masterstroke deal from the West Midlands outfit, but for one reason or another, it’s turned into a horror story.
Where do RB Leipzig come into this then? Well, before the loan move to Villa Park was sanctioned, the German side had been linked with Elliott, but weren’t too enamoured with Liverpool’s asking price. They were only willing to bid around £20million, according to reports at the time, and eventually gave up on their efforts.
It’s known that a long-standing interest from RB Leipzig in Elliott exists, which is something Liverpool can, and really should, use to their advantage. Reinforcing their attack will be crucial this summer, given that Mohamed Salah is set to depart and Hugo Ekitike might not be back until the new year.
There could be another secret weapon at Liverpool’s disposal, and that’s the role of Jurgen Klopp. He is currently the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, which includes influencing transfer decisions at RB Leipzig.
Klopp will know first-hand just how talented Elliott is, and would be able to offer advice to the RB Leipzig transfer team surrounding his viability in the team. What’s more, he may also help persuade Diomande to pick Anfield over Old Trafford, given his previous connections with the six-time European champions.
