Everton were denied a famous victory over Manchester City at Hill Dickinson Stadium as they conceded in stoppage time for the third straight game to draw 3-3 in a pulsating encounter.

After falling behind to Jeremy Doku’s 43rd-minute strike, David Moyes’ men turned the contest on its head in a wild second half as substitute Thierno Barry bagged a brace (68, 81) either side of Jake O’Brien heading the Blues in front.

However, the home side were left to rue some big misses by Iliman Ndiaye as Erling Haaland (83) reduced arrears soon after their second goal, and with just seconds remaining, Doku netted his second goal of the evening to snatch a point for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Jordan Pickford 6

Made a smart save to deny Rayan Cherki and has had to remain alert throughout but couldn’t get close enough to Doku’s top-class effort to open the scoring.

Jake O’Brien 6

For a natural centre-half, it’s an unenviable task to be asked to keep Jeremy Doku quiet, yet he is hanging in there in game fashion, and it was when the Belgian popped up on the other side of the area that he made the crucial breakthrough.

Vitalii Mykolenko 6

Like O’Brien on the opposite flank, he’s got his work cut out against the dangerous Antoine Semenyo, but while he is sticking to that task, it was Cherki who he was unable to stop in the build-up to the goal.

James Tarkowski 6

The Everton captain got himself in a spat with Abdukodir Khusanov after pulling the Uzbek’s jersey and has been kept busy marshalling his defence.

Michael Keane 6

Held his nerve to block a close-range effort from Nico O’Reilly but was booked just before the break for bringing down goalscorer Doku.

Tim Iroegbunam 6

In for the injured Idrissa Gueye, he’s providing the athleticism Everton need against a slick City side, where his off-the-ball work has been as valuable as what he’s done in possession.

James Garner 5

Finds himself as the senior partner in the engine room with Idrissa Gueye out, but while he’s plugging away as usual, we haven’t seen any great moments of quality, and while he tried to close down Doku late in the first half, he couldn’t get close enough to him to prevent his quality strike.

Merlin Rohl 6

Starting for the first time since the 1-0 win at Aston Villa in January, he’s playing on the right wing and made a charging run up the flank to almost set up Beto just after the half-hour mark.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 6

Gave away a soft free-kick when Rayan Cherki rolled around the turf, which unfortunately set the tone that Everton weren’t going to be allowed to battle for this, but he’s been an energetic presence, trying to make things happen.

Iliman Ndiaye 5

Enjoyed one of his best 45 minutes in an Everton shirt in the first half of the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium, but he hasn’t had much joy here so far.

Beto 6

Working hard against City’s defenders, but the ball isn’t finding its way up to him very often, other than when Rohl’s cross almost found its way to him.

Substitutes

Thierno Barry (on 64 for Beto) 9

Impact substitute, he read Marc Guehi’s back pass perfectly to hold his nerve and slot past Donnarumma to equalise, despite the effort initially being ruled out for offside and then added a third with a cool finish from Rohl’s pass.

Nathan Patterson (on 92 for Rohl)

Slipped right at the end to allow Doku in for the equaliser.

Charly Alcaraz (on 92 for Dewsbury-Hall)

Late opportunity on the break as Everton countered when Donnarumma came up for a corner.

Harrison Armstrong (on 96 for Iroegbunam)

Cameo in the dying seconds.
