With only a handful of games remaining this season, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai lead the way for the most minutes played of any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Liverpool have played 54 games in all competitions dating back to the Community Shield in August, with Van Dijk left out of just two matches, and Szoboszlai four.
They lead the way for minutes played under Arne Slot by some distance, with Ibrahima Konate playing more than 400 minutes fewer than Liverpool’s No. 8 this season.
Van Dijk has racked up a staggering 4,671 minutes, and Szoboszlai an equally impressive 4,466 across 52 and 50 appearances respectively.
The Dutchman’s tally is the most of any player from Europe’s top five leagues, and as noted by Opta, it has already surpassed the highest total from any Red across the entire 2024/25 season.

Mo Salah was the player to lead the way last season, playing 4,497 minutes in what was arguably his best campaign as a Liverpool player – he’s currently played 3,060 this time around.
Newcastle‘s Malick Thiaw (4,371), Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi (4,350), and Freiburg’s Maximilian Eggestein (4,433) join Van Dijk and Szoboszlai in the top five for minutes played across the top five leagues.
Liverpool’s captain turns 35 this summer and yet remains heavily relied upon at Anfield, with his current tally setting a new personal record for minutes played in any season at the club.

With three games still remaining and Van Dijk to start all of them, unless injury strikes, the 34-year-old is expected to reach 4,941 minutes across 2025/26 – and that does not even account for his international exploits!
While impressive, it also nods to the over reliance on the captain and fears that his extra workload during the World Cup could inevitably take a toll on his body.
Szoboszlai has a similar workload at club and international level, as he too is a player who regularly starts but is rarely subbed off, asking plenty from his body each week.
By the time the domestic campaign ends later this month, Szoboszlai will extend the record for his most career minutes in one season (4,736) – and perhaps Liverpool will be relieved he is not headed to the World Cup.
