Phil Foden is poised to sign a new and improved deal that will keep him at Manchester City until 2030. And the news will provide a much-needed boost to Foden, who has endured a difficult season for Pep Guardiola's men.

Foden was set to enter the final 12 months of his current contract in June. But Etihad bosses have moved to secure the attacking midfielder's long-term future, following months of talks with the 25-year-old.

And news that his future is now resolved before the World Cup begins could help Foden force his way into Thomas Tuchel's final England squad.

Foden has struggled to find his best form in recent months and found himself out of Pep Guardiola's starting XI. He has not scored a league goal since December.

And to make matters worse, Tuchel has made it clear Foden is not guaranteed to earn a place in his squad for the finals in North America, which kick off in five weeks time.

Tuchel will be spoiled for choice when it comes to picking his attacking midfielders.

Although Foden was the only player to start both England games in March, in their final camp before the tournament.

Foden has won a staggering 18 major trophies with City, including the Treble in 2023 and six league titles.

In a recent interview, former England captain Wayne Rooney admitted it was tough watching such a precocious talent like Foden left stuck on the bench.

Rooney said: "I think you have to put him in the team.

"I love watching him play, I love his little movements, how he gets into the pockets of space. It's not nice watching him sitting on the bench.

"I think he was doing well (this season). He's had bad moments, but when you have a bad moment and you're taken out and put on the sidelines for weeks on end, I just think a player of that quality, you have to just keep playing him."
