Cesc Fabregas is one name currently being linked with the Chelsea job, which is available following Liam Rosenior’s dismissal.
Making nearly 200 appearances at Chelsea as a player and winning two Premier League titles in west London, Fabregas would no doubt be a popular choice.
However, a recent interview given by the former midfielder may have just ended his chances of being hired.
What would you change in Cesc Fabregas’ potential Chelsea XI?
Still looks a bit young 🤔
How Chelsea could line up under Cesc Fabregas
At Como, Fabregas is currently making all the football decisions, and the retired Spain international has made it clear that he needs that trust and responsibility where he works.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Fabregas said: “I take all the football decisions. The sporting director, he’s day-to-day with me and we see football the same way. The signings, we work with data, we have our scouting and stuff, but it needs to be something that I believe in. It needs to be a player that I’m convinced about.
“I’m so happy and lucky that we have a president that trusts me a lot and has given me the confidence to go and take all the football decisions. That, for me, is really important.”
Fabregas seems more than content with life at Como. It would not be a shock if he remained in Italy this summer.
In fact, after those comments, it is quite hard to imagine Fabregas working at Chelsea under BlueCo.
The Blues do have other names on their shortlist, including Andoni Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Jamie Carragher would like to see Iraola at Chelsea, with the Liverpool legend keen to see how he gets on at a bigger club.
Cesc Fabregas won’t be able to make final decisions at Chelsea
Chelsea currently have five sporting directors, including Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who are making most of the football decisions at the club.

Considering that, Fabregas is going to have little control and very little say. He may be allowed to have some input on transfers, but if the likes of Winstanley and Stewart do not agree, it is not going to result in whatever outcome the Como boss was hoping for.
All in all, after his recent comments, Fabregas may have just talked himself out of the Chelsea job. Chelsea want a yes-man, and Fabregas is not going to be that. Why would he when he is basically getting to run a whole club himself at Como?
