The odds market has taken another shift in the Chelsea manager market with former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso now looking the most likely appointment right now

A new favourite has been made in reaction to yet another Chelsea loss in the Premier League as the search for a new head coach continues. The reaction comes just days after Chelsea were taken apart at home 3-1 to a heavily rotated Nottingham Forest side who looked on paper to be prioritising their focus on the Europa League campaign on Thursday when the team sheets were published.
Now, it seems the market has reacted to the result with a recently crowned "joint-favourite" now spearheading the race to become the new Chelsea boss. Xabi Alonso is now the favourite to succeed Liam Rosenior at 13/8 with William Hill as the Blues seek an end to a tumultuous time in the Premier League this season.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Xabi Alonso’s rapid ascent to the top of the market for the Chelsea job has been one of the standout shifts we’ve seen in our manager markets this week. The sustained support for the Spaniard suggests he’s firmly on the club’s radar, and he’s surged into favouritism following Chelsea’s home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday.
“Should the opportunity open up at Liverpool, Alonso is also 1/3 favourite to take the wheel at his former club, and following an underwhelming campaign at Anfield this season, a return to Merseyside is far from ruled out. Elsewhere in the North West, Michael Carrick is now the huge favourite to be in charge of Manchester United on the opening day of next season, now trading at 1/5 after dispatching Liverpool on Sunday.”
Currently guided by interim coach Calum McFarlane, Chelsea are still without a win in the Premier League since the start of March where they picked up a 4-1 win against Aston Villa. At that point, it seemed like everything was falling into place for Rosenior to end the season on a high note but a turn in injuries, discipline and results meant Todd Boehly had no choice but to sack yet another manager.
